The Dia de Los Muertos series came about through inspiration from Mexican coinage. There are many sugar skull designs available in the world but this topic has never been translated into modern numismatics. Staying true to the Mexican coinage heritage you will see an obverse that includes the eagle, the snake and the cactus. At least one of these images is always found on Mexican legal tender.
The 2oz and 47mm size was selected to provide a large enough canvas to showcase both the high relief and the design. This proof-like background on the reverse skull was used to show the depth and detail of the sugar skull, the roses and to bring out the lettering Dia De Los Muertos.
Apmex and The Coin Shoppe are the first to pick up this series with more dealers to be added over time.
